COFFEE WITH AN OPINION

We believe in the good life. For everyone.

Our brand was born out of the belief in the good life – one with happiness and enjoyment, just as with a responsible and conscious attitude towards others and the environment. For us, the good life also means that all people have good prospects for the future. That each of us is able to enjoy whatever it is they consider to be the “good things” in life – be it a cup of coffee, spending time with loved ones or a rich harvest. It’s time to take responsibility for a world we want to live in forever. We want to take action and make a difference – in cooperation with other manufacturers, farmers, businesses and like-minded people.

We know that climate change is going to have a huge impact on our lives.

While coffee consumption continues to increase worldwide, coffee production is under more and more strain due to changing climate conditions. Droughts are getting longer; crop yields are shrinking. And all the while, the global demand grows. Our coffee consumption is not sustainable in its current form – our ecosystems won’t be able to withstand this trend longterm. So, in order to rethink coffee a bit, we decided to look for a local and environmentally friendly alternative. Our grandparents already had the solution, of course: lupin coffee. Lupin beans can be grown locally, taste great, are charmingly beautiful and have been made into coffee for generations. Sounds like just our cup of... well, coffee. The belief behind our lupin coffee is that we don’t just have to make sacrifices in order to tackle the climate crisis – we can also make positive changes. That is why we will follow the principles of circular economy in every step of our manufacturing process to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. Our low-waste concept, which is based on reusing and repurposing resources, is a key aspect of this. We will constantly work to improve our production processes.

(Our) Lupin coffee tastes really, really good.

Coffee alternatives aren’t exactly a new invention. The difference is, ours happens to be really delicious! The other good news is, because lupin coffee is naturally caffeine-free, you get to skip the jitteriness and afternoon crash altogether. Don’t mind if we do. Another thing: we love beautiful, quality handicraft. And our lupin coffee is exactly that – from its cultivation to the roasting and grinding up to its preparation in your home. You can prepare lupin coffee exactly like normal coffee, and you can still enjoy those moments at the heart of your coffeedrinking experience – with friends in a cosy café, in bed before the day begins, curled up with a book on a sunny balcony. Moments like these are just as irreplaceable as the people with whom we share them. We don’t want to miss out on them, not now and not ever – but we do want to be able to feel good about enjoying them in the future, too.

OUR STORY

Hey, I’m Susanne.

The idea behind Lupinion had been brewing for some time before finally manifesting itself in 2020 during lockdown, as a response to some questions that had been on my mind in recent years: “Where are we going as a society? What world are we leaving behind for future generations? How do we want to live?” After some pondering and a few (too many?) cups of coffee, it was clear to me: the environment is the top priority. And alongside broader political action, we can all make an impact just by making small changes to our everyday habits. Time to take responsibility and make my contribution – by rethinking the regular in ways that are creative and exciting. As I stared fondly into my cup of coffee, I realised that this daily pleasure was the perfect place to start. The solution was already on my doorstep: Lupin coffee, the “farmers’ coffee” of earlier generations – delicious, wholesome, local. Why not learn from the past and make lupin coffee viable for the future? No compromises, no cutting corners. Working together and creating networks – especially with like-minded women – with compassion and commitment to people, the environment and to longevity. Drinking locally grown coffee might not start a revolution, but it does combine an everyday bliss with a positive choice that can contribute to wider structural change. So, I hope you like our coffee, and here’s to the future ☺
